12:58 pm - Quickie
Just a quick update. Life has been good recently. Uni has been interesting (if a little dull at times) and I've managed to save enough money to afford to buy an external hardrive, although thats pretty much gonna be my last major purchase. Ive prolly spent too much money recently with three trips on thursdays to edinburgh, dundee, edinburgh in the last 3 weeks. The trips to Edinburgh have been *costly* as I have been hammered playing cards. I had to fold KK twice, as an overpair and was right both times so that was a nice feeling - altough having to say things like "im only £50 down... another player with my cards would have been £150 down" doesnt really help. Went to the cincinatti club last monday with Alex and Paul (both Edinburgh boys). The cincinatti club for those of you who dont know is glasgows premier poker club (i guess). Alex and I managed to both finish top 4, where we did a deal splitting the money 4 ways, with myself and some dude getting the lions share, so I pocketed a tasty £250 and didnt rebuy once (the entry fee was £10).

Online has been going well. Edd's chat about no limit cash games thoroughly seduced me and I have been playing a mixture of £.25/50 and $.50/1

Both games seem incredibly soft and if i didnt keep running into Ace Ace I might be up more. Still im making a steady profit. I think my bankroll might be a bit short for the games, but its too big for smaller games, so im not sure what to do.

Im speed-mooting this thursday. Mooting is basically legal debating. I need to do stuff that really bolsters my cv because I only have one year to make a good inpression on the companies that I will be applying for trainee-ships with which will start in 2009.

Ive started reading the independant, primarilly because its physically easy to read as it in in a magazine format and doesnt require 7 acres to spread it out over. I read a really shocking fact that on the 9th October this year we as a planet went over our anual stipend of allocated natural resources. It makes you think that all this fuss about terrorism is mildly irrelevent in the face of our dying planet. Maybe thats a bit extreme but im sure you see my point. My mum said "well start recycling then", but I genuinely feel that at this stage changes need to be implemented on a government wide scale with a global policy in mind.

Extras is brilliant.

2:25 pm - Awesome
Went through to Edinburgh after my uni classed on thursday to play poker and hang out with Edd. It was an ok night, although once again I realised that just because VK's are a pound each, they dont become any less sickly.

On friday Edd and I went for the shittest meal have ever eaten. On paper a menu of Chicken caesrer salad, spaghetti carbornara and a peperoni and chicken pizza should nice (at least I really enjoy those things) but it was genuinely rank. After that I went to see clerks2. This film should not be viewed by anyone who wants to be considered a wank. Everyone else should see this film. It was absolutely hilarious. It had eveything. I dont think I'm spoiling it too much by saying it had a really funny "whats the 'real' trilogy?: lord of the rings or star wars?" scene which I almost sharted during. It also had a nice, cheesy ending - which I loved.

Dont go and see it (if you want people to think your a wank).

2:12 pm - your NOT the special one!
I seem to be about 40% worse at poker than I used to be, especially in tournaments. I won a small tournament recently and was really surprised with how well I played because right now I am sucking so much ass. Seems like not matter what I do I make a bad decision at exactly the wrong time and bust out.

2:37 pm - Bugger
It just dawned on me. Im 22. That IS old.

It hit me when I was talking to some people on my course, and someone suggested a drink. So we trundled off to the student union and tried to get. But this girl (who I had decided was not fit) couldn't get in, as she is only 17 (I then reassesd her fitness and decided there was something about her afterall).

Now I know how people like I. King feel. It's ok - I understand, just hold on - your not as old as the number of years you've been alive for... well I mean thats exactly how old you are. But realistically your only as old as you feel. That said i've been to Mac'd's twice in two days and feel like im 60, so maybe its better to go with the whole "your as old as you are old" method.

22 tho - and im still only 5 inches. Bugger.

current mood: tired

5:25 pm - its been a while.
I havent updated my livejournal in so long that I needed to view one of my previous entries just to remember how to cut an entry. Skills.

Obviously alot has happened in the last while, sadly i've been too lazy to remember any of it. But seeing as "El Diablo" (wtf?) has starting doing his usual three line bore fests I thought I might update y'all.

Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis is how we do it baby )

12:42 pm - Couchin' it
I had my last exam on monday. It was the second paper on a course called: "A Revoluionary Decade? Europe in the 1960's". It was probablly my favourite course at university, although it did run for an entire year and the class seemed to have good dynamic.

2:03 pm - Banters Back
Sorry about the last post. I really couldnt be bothered writing - but with 7 mins untill the tournament ive entered started I thought I might muse a few thoughts with you.

Got exams coming up. Plenty of time ( I hope ) to get the stuff inside my noggin' so hopefully I can mise a 3rd. Seriously contemplating going to Japan. I just do not want to end up like Edd or Cello compaining about how crap my job is. Ergo I dont want a crap job.

Was in glasgow for the last lik 6 days. Larrys parents are away in Nice, so he had a mini gaming and a poker night Last night. Gaming was ok, I really suck at all the games and I only get into them when they are serious, and for somereason 2 v 2 couterstrike just kinda sucks.

Played somepoker, entering a $22 multi with 356 entrants. I was sitting on Daves couch, playing on my laptop and not really caring. It was mostly to just pass some time untill Dave stopped playing Morrowind (the prequel to "Oblivion" which is meant to be the game of the moment) and Cello arrived. When it got down to about 60 players I started taking it pretty seriously. I managed to get up to about 30k when the Button raised my blind. I reraised him all in with AsQs and he called with QQ:( Oh well. I lost that hand I was down to about 22k in chips but managed to work it back up to 75k with 40 players remaining. By the time people caught up with me there was about 16 players left and I was comfortable at around 100'000 in chips. I decided I was going to win because I had hardly risked my chips and It felt like It would take a cooler hand to knock me up. Evetnually I got heads-up as an underdog but once I managed to grind back the chip lead I never looked back and pocketed a cool $1650.

Its been good this year to cash in multi tables so frequently, and as we speaj my 2-7 has just made trips on the flop.... nice.

1:18 pm - Catch up. Cardiff, St Andrews and Douglas Penman
Its been a while since I posted. Frankly I just dont see the point anymore. To quote the man, the myth, the legend Captain Banter, a.k.a, for you (Johnny F)"my interest in LJ is waning".

That saud I will try for one more push, to try and get people re-enthused in the life and times of Stewart M. Healey (tmtmtl).

This "entry", if you can call it that - frankly it is more of a 'life-guide', a musing, ergo - , this entry is mostly concerned with Cardiff and St Andrews and the events preceding and intervening those events - et cetera et cetera....

BANG!

Quick update for all StuFans out there...

I recently bought the biography of Stu Unger (called One of a Kind). I went to the library today, and took it with me. In 3 hours of reading about the Armenian Genocide I got through about 15 pages. Its heavy stuff. In the half hour break I gave myself I read about 6 times that much from this book. I would seriously consider reading it. Its fascinating. Ill lend, although Im sure Edd has first dibs as i *still* have his book about Jon Finkel, which was not nearly as good as this is.

Essays suck baws. I might hand one in late to do a better job. Basically it's probablly +EV to hand it in late, given that 2 extra days should be greater than the 5 percent I lose. For example if I can write %70 using those extra days, but only a %60 by friday then obviously it makes sense to hand it in late. But! The negative lazy factor means that I want to finish it asap because they are the last things i ever need to hand in.

I looked at law schools today. I can go and do a conversion course in somewhere crappy like Thames Valley University, or Bognor Polytechnic but it means i cant work in scotland.

Also my afore mentioned Students master piece is going to be awesome. I thought of the funniest rant about cats. NOT the musical...

"....and then I was raped by Mr Mistopholese." (name that film!)

8:44 pm - MTT report.
I just finished second in a $33 buy in MTT, which had 541 entrants. I netted $2500, but was 2-1 lead headsup and should probablly won, which woulda been $3800. Still no reason to get dispondant. I guess finishing second in the World Series would indeed suck for about a day.

12:57 pm - Cry Cry
Been a pretty poor week to be honest. After handing in my dissertation, which I think was poor and may cost me a 2:1, Ive not had the best week. Last weekend I went back to Glasgow to have a good old fashioned meal with my Gran, which was aweseome and I got to watch the rugby in her house (what a result!!).

Played some poker on the internet and lost about $200 which I have only just managed to grind back. Poker is a bit weird right now actually...

2:09 pm - Could it be i've grown up?
When I was like 15 I freely admitt that I was a bit of an arse.

By the time I got to university I was starting to improve my personality but think that I was often too selfish and sensitive about trivial matters. For example if I suggested a pub and then someone said that pub is shit I took it as a personal attack on my personality (im sure thats terrible english). Now I wouldnt care if someone said that pub is shit. (The pub is just an example)

Imagine you are one nil down in the 89th minute of the Champions League final.

Imagine that you are just 'one man' who must rise against the might of 'all the world' if order is to be restored.

Imagine that you are the very best in your field of expertise, but on of your commrades is considered better.

Imagine that you have some of the most electrifying conversation know to man.

11:18 pm - poker chat.
Id like to share one of my *worst* sessions with you.

Having managed once again grind my roll up to a place where I like it, I decided to enter a multi table tournament.

I got dealt kk, losing to ak.

Then my AQ couldnt quite overcome my opponents A10.

My nines failed to withstand the pressure exerted by 88.

Then my sevens couldnt beat AK in a race.

One of those loses is legitimately acceptable. The other three arent too pleasing. I didnt mind tho, because there was $1000 guaranteed limit event. I rule at limit versus these people, so paid the entry fee. Rounds are 8 minitues long. It was not untill thr 6th round of play (over 40 mins) That I got dealt a playable hand. It was JJ. My opponent had 99. The flop came 2 9 10. Thankfully the turn and river were also 10's. How lucky am I? Believing this was the start of a long due rush was my first mistake. I waited another 3 full levels (or 24 mins - 1 hour 4 mins total) to get my second hand. This was 88. The flop came kk9. There was a bet and a raise. I folded. Around 10 minutes later I recieved yet another monster, pocket fours. These I folded without even seeing a flop,
beliving correctly that the raise and reraise (where these people get their hands from who knows) signalled my doom. I would have lost to the chap with 55.

After carefully explaining to everyone about my predicament, and being thoroughly backed up by some guy, I made my stand with kq. It was folded round to the big blind, who called. The flop came A J 3 with two spades. I had the K of spades. I bet, he called, I sighed. The turn was a fourth spade. I bet. He called, I prayed for one of my (assumed) 12 outs to hit on the river. It didnt. He turned over J 8 off suit for second pair. I sighed again, realsing that even a King or Queen would have one it for me. (Making 17 outs)

The moral of the story: I must have played poorly.

6:54 pm - Walk on, walk on.
As many of you may know I am in my final year at university. This entails many things. Firstly I can no longer enjoy nights out. Seconcly I always get hangovers. Thirdly its dissertation time. This is good for about zero reasons. Put another way, its bad.

2:01 pm - OOOOOOO! That IS racist.
A very belated merry christmas and happy new year to you all. Except Africa. I mean I hope its not a bad year - im just not too fussed.

Ah! The years resolution is playing out nicely. After a mild chat with my nice (white) friend Lawrence we both decided that being partimers wasn't acceptable. So full-time Racism it is!

Too Good.

Mitchell told me about this film and said it was awesome. It is. Basically its the Truman Show meets The Matrix, with the added bonus of Sean Bean, the Black Dude from Gladiator (something like Dijmon Houson) and Scarlett Johanson.
